Ruben is a successful cancer scientist and science communicator. Over the last decade, he has worked in computational cancer biology at multiple universities, e.g. the DKFZ in Heidelberg (DE), Universitat Pompeu Fabra (ES), the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute in Cambridge (UK) and since last summer in industry at GlaxoSmithKline.
His focus is on genomic alterations, specifically chromosomal instability and their influence in cancer initiation and development. Since his first co-authorship in 2012 he has supported the Liver Cancer Evolution and the PanCancer Analysis of Whole Genomes consortia as well as spearheading his own research project that got published in Nature last year. His work led to a patent application and the successful development of a startup. Next to his research, he has been working with the Cancer Research UK as a science communicator to promote cancer.
