Treb is Distinguished Associate Professor of Economics and Globalisation at Dartmouth College and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Allen received his PhD from Yale University and previously held positions at Northwestern, Stanford and Princeton Universities. His research in the fields of international economics, development economics, urban economics and economic geography has been published in leading economic journals such as Econometrica, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Political Economy and Review of Economic Studies.

Allen is the recipient of the WTO Essay Prize for Young Economists, the Kiel Institute's Award for Excellence in Global Economics and an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship. He is co-editor of the Journal of International Economics, associate editor of Econometrica and a member of the Editorial Board of the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy.
