Paloma, co-founder and CEO of Atacama Biomaterials, is a distinguished entrepreneur and materials scientist with a deep background in ML. After earning her PhD at MIT, she pioneered AI applications in materials science to commercialise sustainable products.

Atacama, an MIT spin-off, is leading the development of innovative and cost-effective alternatives to traditional plastics using locally sourced raw materials. Atacama, which uses only 11% of the energy it typically needs and is powered by green energy and advanced robotics, is setting new standards in the industry.

Their efforts are poised to significantly reduce reliance on single-use packaging, making sustainable options more affordable and reducing CO2 emissions by two gigatonnes by 2035.

Under his leadership, Atacama has developed WPk, a recycled paper-based composite that matches the cost and exceeds the performance of conventional materials in strength, durability and light weight. This breakthrough has catalysed market interest, leading to the expansion of Atacama's pilot line to increase material sampling and meet growing demand.
