Georgia is the John C Head III (Acting) Dean of the MIT Sloan School of Management and Professor of Operations Management, Operations Research and Statistics at the MIT Sloan School of Management. She has been on the MIT Sloan faculty since July 1998.

Perakis teaches courses and conducts research in analytics/AI, particularly at the intersection of optimisation and machine learning with applications in pricing, revenue management, supply chain and healthcare, among others. Over the years, he has taught in a number of MIT programmes, including undergraduate, masters, PhD, MBA and EMBA. For his teaching, Perakis won the Graduate Student Council Teaching Award in 2002, as well as the Jamieson Award in 2014 for excellence in teaching, and the Teacher of the Year award (among all MIT Sloan School faculty) in 2017.

She has received the CAREER award from the National Science Foundation and the PECASE award from the President's Office of Science and Technology. In 2016 she was elected a Fellow of INFORMS and in 2021 a Distinguished Fellow of MSOM.

Both awards recognise his lifetime achievements in the field. In addition, his work has been recognised with numerous awards, including the TSL Best Paper Award, the INFORMS Service Science Section Best Paper competition on several occasions, as well as the Best Application of Theory Award from the NEDSI (Northeast Decision Sciences Institute) Conference, among others. His paper on promotions with Oracle RGBU was a finalist for the INFORMS RMP Section Practice Award in 2015.
